Our stop in Tunis, Tunisia was interesting to say the least. When we arrived at the cruise port, we hopped on a tour bus to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, the blue and white city in Tunisia. On the way, I glanced out of the bus window and spotted a man in civilian clothing, holding a machine gun on the side of a random street. He looked at our driver and took a seat on an old, rusty folding chair. I felt uncomfortable and described what I had just seen to Brandon, but he wasn't worried -- only upset that we had missed a photo opportunity. Psshhh, men.
Carthage was underwhelming after exploring the ruins in Rome, but overall, it was a good stop. You can find some photos of the Roman Baths below.
Tunis was HOT but we enjoyed looking at all of the colorful doors and finding unique souvenirs in the Sidi Bou Said shops. I even found a can of Fanta with Arabic on it, which is my drink of choice when sweating like a man. I've tried Fanta in probably 14 different countries {is that weird?} and it always tastes different -- like juice in the UK and candy sweet in Morocco!
The people in Tunisia were very friendly and welcoming, and there was definitely a lot to see. It's fulfilling to step outside the box and experience a culture that's so different from your own.

ReplyDeleteOh wow, gorgeous. I live in Malta - super close to Tunisia, and always wondered if it was worth a visit. I've always been fascinated by the North African culture + Roman history of the city.
ReplyDeleteLove these pictures! And I totally want one of those rugs now! I went to Cairo before all of the crazy uprisings, and I'll say that the machine guns everywhere (including the second we got off the plane at the airport) were a bit unsettling, too.
ReplyDeleteWOW WOW WOW - What camera do you have? These photos are amazing!! The colors, wow! We almost took a trip to Tunisia when I lived in Germany and you're making me almost regret the decision to go to Paris instead!!
